Job Description - Third In Charge Position
St Margaret’s Nursery and Preschool, the second-largest private nursery based in Edinburgh with the current capacity of 121 children, is recruiting for a 3rd in charge member of staff to support senior management and the day to date running of the nursery.
This post will be fixed term until early 2024, however, a high possibility of continuing to progress within the company.
You must have at least a successful two years of experience managing, leading, supervising and role modelling to a large staff team. Experience of working in an Early Years sector at a senior or lead practitioner level is required. Adaptability, delegation, prioritising, problem-solving, emotional intelligence, and the ability to deal with the challenges calmly and professionally will be one of your strengths. Since St Margaret’s Nursery and Preschool is a private nursery, a sense of business awareness is also essential. You must be able to demonstrate experience of successfully delivering the Education Scotland guidance for the Scottish Government’s “Curriculum for Excellence” (for children aged 3-5 years) and Planning for children under 3’s so you can contribute to quality assurance, monitoring, and plan for action. You must be knowledgeable on all the most recent documents – Realising the Ambition etc. Health and Carer Standards and expectation of regulatory and professional bodies, such us Care Inspectorate, Early Years Team Edinburgh City Council etc.
The expectations mentioned above are crucial to successfully supporting the nursery manager and director to lead, monitor and improve the service. Experience in being inspected by Care Inspectorate or HMIe in the past will be an advantage. You must have knowledge of Self-evaluation; documents used to improve the service and prove your contribution to our annual SQIP. You will be highly motivated, driven, enthusiastic, reliable, self-motivated, and committed to high levels of customer service with a proven ability to maintain positive and supportive relationships with children, colleagues, and parents. You will lead and motivate a growing team of practitioners, encourage positive relationships, and create a warm and stimulating environment for growing minds to develop. You will be working in partnership with the Nursery Manager, Nursery Team, Operations Team, and Director. Ensuring the day-to-day operation of the nursery is kept to a high standard in line with company policy and ensuring compliance with the Children Act 2006 and associated Scottish Curriculums, all relevant Health and Safety legislation and any actions set by Care Inspectorate. In the absence of the manager or director, you will be required to step into the managerial role and manage the day-to-day operation of the nursery to ensure the Health and Safety of all 121 children, their parents, staff and visitors. You will have some experience in staff allocation and deployment. You will lead by example, supervise, mentor, and support all aspects of the Early Years Curriculum, notably where it is required the most.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wishes to progress from their current level and work towards SVQ Level 4, BA Childhood Practice or teaching qualification.
