We are looking to recruit a Modern Apprentice to join our amazing team. Our ideal candidate would have excellent interpersonal skills, a creative mind, and the ability to use their own initiative and work as part of a team. 

We are particularly looking for someone who: 

* shares our commitment to helping children thrive and obtain the best start in life through the provision of a variety of experiences and learning opportunities which are suitable for their age and stage of development; and 

* is passionate about creating a safe, inclusive, stimulating, and caring environment for children, and supporting children’s participation in a variety of indoor and outdoor play experiences, including sports, the arts, and regular excursions. 

Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme will be essential on taking up appointment along with SSSC Registration.

Your main responsibilities will be: 

1. To contribute a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for the children placed in nursery; 

2. To give support to other personnel within the nursery; 

3. To implement the daily routine in the nursery playroom; and 

4. To keep up to date with your modern apprentice work and assessments, liaise with your assessor and ask for support when required. 

Your main duties will be: 

1. To support management and work as a member of a team to provide at all times a safe, caring and stimulating environment for the children in line with the early year’s framework and guidelines; 

2. To support a wide variety of activities for the children that are suitable to their individual stages of development. 

3. To ensure that child records, such as learning journals, personal and care plans, next steps etc. are kept up to date (with support and when ready) 

4. To build relationships with parents/carers in order to reduce the division between home and nursery for the child (with support and when ready) 

5. To ensure the provision of a high-quality environment to meet the needs of individual children regardless of any disabilities, family backgrounds or medical history. 

6. To ensure the maintenance of adequate standards of cleanliness and hygiene for the children attending the nursery. This includes changing nappies and toilet training. 

7. To undertake certain domestic jobs within the nursery e.g. cleansing of equipment etc. and the cleaning of rooms. Broadly ensuring the nursery is kept clean and tidy, following government guidelines. 

8. To record accidents and incidents on the correct media platform (With support) 

9. To always ensure that someone known and agreed by the nursery and parents collects the child (with support and when ready) 

10. To accompany small groups of children on regular local outings e.g. to the shops, park etc. 

11. To attend regular staff meetings and parents’ evenings. 

12. To assist with serving the children’s lunches, to stack the dishwasher, wash up and to generally clear the kitchen after lunch, snack, and breakfast. 

13. To participate in staff training events and to complete annual assessments of progress. 

14. To ensure all policies/procedures and risk assessments are read, understood, and adhered to. 

15. To respect the confidentiality of all information received. 

16. To liaise and work with outside agencies regarding your key worker children (with support and when ready). 

17. To carry out any other duties requested by the service provider, nursery manager, or deputy manager that may reasonably be expected from a Modern Apprentice. 

18. To be aware of the high profile of the nursery and to uphold its standards at all times both within and outwith work hours. 

19. To be approachable at all times. 

20. To look after and be responsible for all equipment and resources within the nursery. 

21. To wear your provided uniform at all times indoors and out.
